In the project Effectiveness of different types of scaffolds in self-regulated elearning, we investigate how cognitive, metacognitive and motivational scaffolds influence the results of e-learning. We also investigate if the effectiveness of different types of scaffolds is related to students’ individual characteristics (abilities, prior knowledge, self-regulatory competences).
We will first adapt the existing and develop new instruments for assessing the students’ individual characteristics and develop elearning units with a computer program for navigating through the e-learning unit, managing scaffolds and monitoring the student’s learning activities in the e-learning units. Instruments will be validated on a sample of 300 9th grade primary school students.
In the main study, we will investigate the effectiveness of different types of scaffolds in e-learning and the influence of different individual characteristics on this effectiveness. New findings will be useful in planning personalized use of scaffolds in e-environments that will optimize learning. The findings will also add to knowledge of effectiveness of metacognitive and motivational scaffolds in self-regulated learning and to the assessment of importance of combining different types of scaffolds in e-learning. They will promote development of e-textbooks that will not integrate the scaffolds in an intuitive, but rather in a systematic, scientifically supported way, thus optimally supporting independent learning.

ETHNOMUSE: multimedia digital archive of slovenian folk music and folk dance culture

The goals of the project are to develop music information retrieval algorithms for folk music. The work is based on the Slovenian archive of folk music and dance culture “Ethnomuse”, which gathers a large variety of multimedia materials, including audio, scores, videos, lyrics and textual metadata (including GIS locations). Music includes solo and choir singing, instrumental music, as well as bell chiming performances. We plan to develop tools and methods that will be used by folk music researchers to interact with the archive and include segmentation, transcription and search-by-melody in symbolic and audio domains. We are also developing algorithms for data mining and visualisation of the archive’s contents. Folk music is passed on orally, so songs change over the time, mix with other songs etc. Complex relations exist between song variants in the archive, which encourages us to research methods of discovering and visualizing these relations.

Gaia Explorer - Web-based visualization of Gaia mission data

Project Information

The project OBJEM: Reading Literacy and Development of Slovenian Language aims at raising the reading literacy level for better learning achievements of pupils at all levels of education.

In the scope of the project, we will prepare an online platform for supporting development of children’s pre-literacy abilities in the early school period. The platform will be based on the online platform for distribution of educational applications PerceiveConceive, which will be adapted to the needs of the OBJEM project. As part of the project, we will also develop two new educational games, which will be soundly integrated with the existing platform and the existing educational games, while supporting the set goals for aiding the development of auditory perception in the child.

PerceiveConceive: an application for ICT-supported inclusion of blind and visually impaired youth in society
